We are trained birth companions to support you through any aspect of your pregnancy journey, including childbirth, the postnatal period, miscarriage, abortion or stillbirth.
The word doula comes from the Greek meaning “a woman who serves”. We are not healthcare professionals; we are advocates for your birthing experience. We are passionate about sharing information so you feel empowered to make decisions about your body and baby each step of the way. Think of us like your biggest birthing cheerleader!
We spend 100% of our time focusing on you and love all things pregnancy, birth and baby related. We might know lots of things, but you are the expert on yourself. Your doula is there to affirm you, empower you, and champion you. And if we don’t know the answer to something, we’ll find it out together.
The World Health Organisation recommends continuous support for women in childbirth, and doulas provide exactly that. A Cochrane review (2017) stated that women who received continuous labour support may be:
🌸 More likely to give birth 'spontaneously', i.e. give birth vaginally with neither ventouse nor forceps nor caesarean
🌸 Less likely to use pain medications
🌸 Less likely to have a caesarean birth
🌸 More likely to be satisfied and have shorter labours
Do you have any questions about working with a doula in your pregnancy? Or have you used one before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
